A TV SET, AN ANTENNA BUT NO SUPPLYER

ONLY IN CANADA THEY SAY HEY..........
That is what is on the agenda today. Imagine CBC (Radio-Canada)
going CABLE
That is like living in a region where there is no gaz and you would
buy a car. When buying a tv set , you buy it on the premise that
you will be getting a broadcaster, even more so when your taxes
pay for an existing broadcaster. ''CANADIANS ARE TOO
AMERICANIZED'' you will hear the politicians say, yet how do you
expect to maintain a canadian culture if you cut canadians off
exposure to that very culture. I remember when I was young,
growing up in Hull, we had to pay 50 cents for a licence for this
old Victrola we had, it was called amusement tax. It was for
entertainment O.K. but the news you got on radio, that was
purpose of CBC especially during wartime. How do you keep
canadians informed about politics, culture or even sports if
everybody is going cable ? We are not talking about a star system
where stars build shows about other stars for other stars. We
are talking about real people who work hard, pay their taxes and
very often have paid for that institution called CBC. 30% of the
population is made up of SENIORS , most of them have no social
life other than their TV SET , and cannot afford cable service.
What kind of society are we ? Give us our TV, WE PAID FOR IT
AND ARE STILL PAYING FOR IT.

YE OLD BARMAN
